[log in to unmask][log in to unmask], 12 Sep 2013 09:58:22 -0400368_iso-8859-1 A new birding club is forming in Union County, and we would like to invite all interested birders to attend. The first meeting will be next week in Marysville, on Wednesday, September 18th, at 7:30 p.m. You don't need to be a Union County resident to attend; our group is going to organize birding trips and bring in speakers about interesting topics. Monday, Sept. 2 - 8-9:30 a.m.

Visible from the first parking area in the East (Main) Metropark, two bald
eagles (1 adult and 1 immature) put on quite a show this morning--fishing
and eating. Also a great many of each: great blue herons, great egrets,
wood ducks, green herons, DC cormorants, and belted kingfishers were
present. Oops! Don't want to forget the ring-billed gulls.

At the north end of the "lake", we had close looks at greater and lesser
yellowlegs. Also seen at a further distance were pectoral, semipalmated,
least, and solitary sandpipers along with many killdeer (hoping for a
semipalmated plover). Wishing for rain to keep the mudflats attractive to the
shorebirds. Had a flyover of 2 coopers hawks. Also, a fellow birder had
pictures of 2 red-shouldered hawks (1 mature, 1 immature) sitting in the
half-dead tree immediately to the west.

Happy birding,
Ed and Bev Neubauer, Dean Porter, Eileen Roberts, Rick Asamoto, Mary &
Stan, Kurt Stein, Lee Reed, and several other birders whose names we haven't
memorized yet.
