Larry Jeanblanc, Julie Karlson, and I drove to South Charleston which is in
southeastern Clark County to bird this morning. We started near the Trupoint
Grain Elevator and walked around the block. We found 8 Eurasian Collared
Doves along Route 41 just east of the elevator. They have been in this area
for at least 2 1/2 years. Then we walked a couple miles down the bike trail
and back. This seems to be a good area for sparrows. We recorded Chipping,
Field, Vesper, Fox, Song, White-throated, White-crowned, and Swamp Sparrows
plus a few juncos. The highlight was a Nelson's Sparrow at the edge of a
weedy field. This is my first record of Nelson's Sparrow in Clark County.
