I had a chance to hike around Scioto Audubon MetroPark this evening, and had fairly good birding in the mild weather. Most interesting was a quartet of Black-crowned Night Herons fishing in the shallow bay just west of the Grange Audubon Center. Normally difficult to locate earlier in the day, the 3 adults & 1 juvenile were shuffling around the shallows looking for fish and crayfish. Also on the water further south were a flock of 200+ gulls (all Ring-bills except 2 Herring), 20+ cormorants, and a Pied-billed Grebe. Landbirds included a Kestrel in the north fields, 4-5 Golden-crowned Kinglets along the bikepath, and a small flock of 6 White-crowned Sparrows near the Audubon Center's north feeders. Large flocks of Robins, Starlings, and grackles were staging along the river, and appeared to be heading to roosts outside the Park.
