Greetings all -
FINALLY, we had some light NNE winds amidst a loooong doldrum of SW winds this fall. Weather has been gorgeous through September and October, but lakewatching has been the pits without any major NNW/NNE winds. There must be a massive number of waterfowl ready to explode behind the closed floodgates. Whenever we finally see a strong NNW front (will we see it before November??) lakewatching should seriously pick up. Today was GREAT, all things considered, just in a short window of time - 9 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. from Perkin's Beach overlook at Edgewater Park. Twelve species of waterfowl and the BROWN PELICAN made it into the lakewatch count as it foraged far offshore then headed west. Jerry Talkington had a Common Loon from Sunset Park in Lake County.
Totals:SNOW GOOSE (4 with Canadas), CACKLING GOOSE (2 with Canadas), Canada Goose (620), Mallard (60), American Black Duck (2), American Wigeon (38), Northern Pintail (56), Gadwall (2), Blue-winged Teal (5), Green-winged Teal (6), unidentified dabbling ducks (55), Lesser Scaup (8), BLACK SCOTER (9), BROWN PELICAN (1), Double-crested Cormorant (465), Merlin (2)
