I stopped at Alum Creek Lake after work yesterday, and downstream at Sharon Woods MetroPark after the rain today, and the cold front seems to have pushed in lots of temperate migrants. Yesterday I worked for an hour and a half for a handful of migrants around the Beach and New Galena areas; today, 45 minutes in less optimal habitat at Sharon Woods produced far more. I could hardly find any waterfowl in all of the south end of Alum Creek Lake Reservoir, while today small Shrock Pond had good diversity. Notables for both days included:

Waterfowl - Shrock Lake today had 14 Pied-billed Grebes, 40+ Mallards, 1 Black Duck, 1 Wood Duck, and 1 Hooded Merganser
Raptors - a few Turkey Vultures on both days. Yesterday at New Galena had a fly-by Sharp-shinned Hawk
Gulls - the gull flock on the Alum Creek Lake beach had 150+ Ring-bills and 2 Herring yesterday afternoon.
Woodpeckers - good #s of resident Downies & Red-bellies on both days; 5-6 Flickers at each spot, but no sapsuckers.
Brown Creepers - 1 at Alum Creek Lake, 3+ at Sharon Woods
Winter Wrens - 1 at Alum Creek Lake, 2 at Sharon Woods
Kinglets - both Ruby-cr. and Golden-cr. on both days, but no large numbers at either locale
E.Bluebirds - small flocks of 4-5 at both sites on each day.
Hermit Thrushes - none at Alum Creek Lake, 4 at Sharon Woods
Robins - 60+ at Alum Creek Lake, compared to 170+ at Sharon Woods today, in half the time.
Cedar Waxwings - 10 at New Galena yesterday, followed by 15+ around Sharon Woods today.
Yellow-rumped Warblers - 30+ at New Galena at Alum Creek Lake yesterday; 16+ at Sharon Woods today.
Chipping Sparrows - 2 at New Galena yesterday, 20+ at Sharon Woods today
Field Sparrows - 4+ at both locations.
Swamp Sparrows - 1 in the sparrows field at Alum Creek Lake yesterday, 4-5 in the meadows of Sharon Woods today
White-throated sparrows - 40+ at New Galena yesterday, 30+ at Sharon Woods today
Juncos - 2-3 on each day, at New Galena yesterday and Sharon Woods today.
Blackbirds - small flocks of grackles on both days
Finches - Goldfinches in both spots, but no siskins yet at either.
