Hi all,

I just got a call from Junior Nisley, who reports a flock of 33 Greater White-fronted Geese in northern Marion County, about 6.5 miles southeast of Killdeer Plains Wildlife Area. The birds were resting on a pond, in association with one Snow Goose and about 400 Canada Geese. The pond is on the south side of Irvin Shoots Road, just west of its intersection with Prospect-Upper Sandusky Road. This location is about 6 miles west of State Rte. 4. Travelers coming from Rte. 23 would exit at Rte. 4, go south a very short distance, and turn west on Irvin Shoots Rd.

Junior reports that he regularly sees lots of geese loafing on this pond, including several possible Ross's Geese earlier this fall. It sounds like the pond might be a frequent resting spot for geese in between their feeding forays into area crop fields. Might be worth a check if you are in the area.
