I used the low traffic of the holiday morning to visit Antrum Lake and the Rush Run area of Worthington, a north Columbus suburb. Most of the water, even in still ponds, was open, but little was on Antrum or nearby ponds. Most ground feeding sparrows were scarce, probably heading for feeders to weather the extended snow. Interesting birds included:

Sapsucker - 1 was calling from Rush Creek Ravine up near Boulevard Park, a typical wintering location
Other Woodpeckers - LOTS of Red-bellies & Downies, plus a few Hairies, in both sites
BrownCreepers - good #s along the river and feeder creeks, with 5 at Antrum and 3 in Rush Creek ravines
Carolina Wrens - good #s seem to have survived the freeze so far, with 5-6 at Antrum and another 5 in the Rush Creek ravines
Golden-cr.Kinglets - none at Antrum, but 5 were in the Rush Creek ravines
Cedar Waxwings - a nice flock of 50 was feeding on honeysuckle berries at Antrum Lake, where the berry crop looks very good
Yellow-rumped Warblers - 2 were lurking along the Olentangy River at Antrum Lake
