Columbus Audubon, co-program chairs

Join us Tuesday, November 19 to hear Professor Lonnie Thompson,
Distinguished University Professor, Geological Sciences at The Ohio State
University and Senior Research Scientist at the OSU Byrd Polar Research
Center. Rumor has it that Lonnie has spent more time above 18,000 feet than
anyone else in history, and he has been called "...the closest living thing
to Indiana Jones" by his peers.

Lonnie Thompson's research has propelled the field of ice core
paleoclimatology out of the polar-regions to the highest tropical and
subtropical ice fields. He has published over 185 peer-reviewed publications
including several in the journal Science, led over 54 field programs, and
has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Ocean and
Atmospheric Association, and NASA. We are indeed honored to have Lonnie
Thompson, PhD, presenting to Columbus Audubon members and guests. For a
preview of some of Prof. Thompson's work, check out the
<http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/earth/profile-thompson.html> PBS Nova episode
that features Lonnie and his research.

7:00 - 7:15 pm: CA Short Program: Christie Vargo, Director of the Grange
Insurance Audubon Center, and our own Suzan Jervey, Vice President of
Columbus Audubon will recap the Taking Flight Together presentation that
they gave at the National Audubon Conference in Seattle, WA in July 2013. We
are very proud of the relationship between the GIAC and Columbus Audubon,
which is a level of cooperation unique in the nation. Come here how we do
it!

7:15 - 7:30 pm: Social time and refreshments and time to take the bird quiz
and try for a nice prize. The skins are tied into Lonnie's talk with birds
found high above the tree line and on the mountain tops. Thanks to Dr.
Angelika Nelson for her partnership and assistance with the bird quiz each
month.

7:30 - 9:00 pm: Main program, door prizes

Columbus Audubon public programs are free and open to the public. All
programs are held at the Grange Insurance Audubon Center (
