I made a visit to Evans L. in east Mahoning Co. today.  Pretty good birds included: gadwalls, Am. black duck, 3 green-winged teal, bufflehead, c. goldeneye, hooded mergansers, ruddy ducks, pied-billed grebe, 2 bald eagles, and Am. coots.  A couple days ago I did my first winter look at the Mahoning River between Struthers and Lowellville, also in east Mahoning Co.  I found 2 ring-necked ducks, hooded mergansers, ring-billed gulls, n. flicker, red-bellied & downy woodpeckers, Carolina wren, e. bluebird, Am. robin, n. mockingbird, song sparrow, and dark-eyed juncos.  Here at my backyard feeder (in Poland Twp.) the best birds so far have been a couple of Am. tree sparrows.  No red-breasted nuthatch yet.  Craig Holt
