I took advantage of the diminishing rain Sunday morning to check out these sites near downtown Columbus. All the blustery weather hadn't changed the birdlife much from the CBC the prior weekend. I stopped at the Haul Rd quarries, Scioto Audubon, and the Greenlawn cemetery, and had fair numbers of birds at all 3 sites. The river was so high that it flooded the bikepath at several points, even at Scioto Audubon. Notables included

Diving Ducks - Haul Rd had a few Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead, & Ruddies, while Scioto Audubon had a small flock of Hooded Mergansers in the bay above the dam.

cormorants - small numbers (3-5) at both Haul Rd and Scioto Audubon

Black-cr. Night Herons - 2 remain at the roost in the bay above the Greenlawn dam at Scioto Audubon

Raptors - Red-tailed hawks at every site, but nothing else was out. No Merlin in the cemetery, despite a careful search.

Gulls - hardly any, with only a few Ring-bills at Haul Rd and 2 flyovers at Scioto Audubon

sapsucker - at least 1 was calling at the Greenlawn cemetery, where 3 were found by Jim McCormac's CBC team last week.

Brown Creepers - 1-2 were at both Scioto Audubon and the Greenlawn cemetery

Kinglets - Golden-crowns at every stop, even Haul Rd (which has only a fringe of trees for them)

Thrushes - small flocks of Robins at every stop, with the biggest flocks around the cemetery entrance

Warblers - Yellow-rumps were at several spots at Scioto Audubon

Sparrows - flocks of White-throats at every stop, including 40+ at Scioto Audubon. The only Tree Sparrows were at Haul Rd

Blackbirds - nothing but a lone grackle at Scioto Audubon

Finches - nothing but House Finches & Goldfinches at the feeders at Scioto Audubon and the cemetery.
