I spent a few hours this morning roaming areas of Battelle Darby metroPark. The creek isn't frozen, but just about everything else was. Areas of streamside trails were covered by iced puddles from earlier flooding. The creek held Canada Geese, but nothing else. Landbirds were mostly clustered around the feeders at Indian Ridge and Cedar Ridge. Mostly there were lots of chickadees, titmice & woodpeckers. Notable were 2 sapsuckers along the Terrace Trail at Indian Ridge, and 6-7 Tree Sparrows at the feeder there. Cedar Ridge had a calling Pileated Woodpecker and a hunting Cooper's Hawk, but little else of note; the feeders had less diversity than those at Indian Ridge, but did have 10-12 American Goldfinches.

I also stopped at Kuhlwein 'wetlands', which should be re-named Kuhlwein tundra this week. Despite it's forlorn appearance, I did have small flocks of Song & Tree Sparrows there, along with a larger flock of 50+ Horned Larks and 1 harrier.
