Hi all,

Not being able to stand it, having a Snowy so close to my office, I ran up to the aforementioned Huntley Road site and joined a dozen or so other birders. The owl was high atop a huge water tower, offering distant but good views through optics. At 1:30, it flexed its wings, lifted from the tower, and headed quickly and unerringly due south. I doubt we'll see it back at that tower; it was probably just using that as a resting point.

Thanks to Scott Albaugh for quickly getting word out of the owl, and to his student who spotted it. It really was a terrific spot, as the bird was a long way off and was just a small bump on top of the tower with the naked eye, in a heavily developed area where one might not be thinking of finding a Snowy Owl.

Jim

Subject: [Ohio-birds] Snowy Owl

There was a Snowy Owl on top of a water tower in the 6500 Block of Huntley Rd. in Worthington. It was seen around 12:30 pm today. Quite a few birders other than myself saw the bird.
