One of "our" Northern harriers has returned to the yard this weekend. He
has been very successful the last two days. We have watched him get several
mice. And now as I type the female is working the back yard. They are so
fun to watch. They dive into the weeds and pull out a mouse nest and then
rip it apart like a Christmas present. Sometimes they are rewarded. I have
paths cut around the property and they make several laps a day most of the
winter. I was worried about seeing them again because some adjacent
properties have been taken out of CRP or mowed recently. This may mean they
will be here more or they may move on if we can't sustain them. I hope our
new chickens are smart enough to stay in the shelter.

Anyone interested in helping with the Carey Christmas Count let me know. We
are conducting it on Fri. Jan. 3rd.
