I stopped by the Avon Lake Water Plant today at 9:00am. It was an amazing
spectacle! The lake is not frozen at this location due to the warm water
discharge. Here are my conservative estimates:

Mergansers - 1,000+ (greatly outnumbered every other species)

Scaups - 1,000+

Canvasback - 1,000+

Redhead - 1,000+

Bufflehead - 1,000+

Goldeneye - 1,000+

Juvenile Bald Eagle - perched on the highest ice shard, nothing short of
spectacular.

Canada Geese - 1,000+

Shoveler - 10

Gulls were overwhelming and I didn't spend much time evaluating them. Lots
of Black Backs.

There may have been more species, but I was not dressed warmly enough to
stay longer than 10 minutes. Temperatures are raw, but there was little
wind. I went out to the end of the pier for the best views.

If you are in the Lorain County area, dress warm, and get there because it's
pretty amazing right now.

Location Specifics: This is in Avon Lake, in Lorain County. Located at the
intersection of Lake Road (Route 6) and Miller Road. You can park either at
Miller Road Park, or at the boat launch parking lot. There is a walking
path from either parking lot to the pier.

Good luck.

Spencer
