Please brave the cold to hear Ken Fecker talk about his beloved Purple
Martins. Actually this week there are reports of them arriving in the
southern part of the US on the PMCA site. Ken is an area expert and you
will be amazed of the conservation work he has done for this beloved bird.
Members and guests are welcome. Social time at 7pm and the meeting starts
at 7:30pm.

Best,

Darlene Sillick

DCBC program chair

Conversation and refreshments begin at 7:00 PM; the meetings and programs
start at 7:30 PM. Parking is available next to the Selby Stadium on the east
side of Henry Street and in the lot south of the Science Center next to

January 27th: "Creating and Managing a Purple Martin Colony" - Kenny Fecker.
In this program, Kenny will try to help those who may be interested in
starting a new purple martin colony on their own property, or on a public
site. He will discuss the purple martin species, its biology and habits,
and most importantly, its nesting and habitat requirements along with its
historic relationship with man. The interesting history and evolution of
various forms of purple martin housing will also be described, including
those which are most, and least, desirable to martins in the Central Ohio
area. A PowerPoint slideshow, produced by the Purple Martin Conservation
Association, will be shown, along with a few additional slides of his own
martin colonies at his home and at Delaware State Park. Open discussion will
follow.
Kenny Fecker has been a casual birder and purple martin landlord for
over 45 years, since the age of ten. He manages over 200 pairs of martins at
his two colony sites, and has also advised and mentored numerous other
landlords in the creation and maintenance of their own martin colonies. Ken
is now semi-retired from Frito-Lay Inc., which allows him more time to
observe and enjoy purple martins and other species of birds in the Central
Ohio area.
