The Mahoning River is the only open water here in the Struthers/Lowellville area. And it has attracted some good birds recently. Today I found a male LONG-TAILED DUCK in Struthers, and on 2/9 there was a male WHITE-WINGED SCOTER there. Other birds seen lately: GREEN-WINGED TEAL, redheads, ring-necked ducks, bufflehead, c. goldeneyes, hooded mergansers, common mergansers, pied-billed grebe, and great blue heron. In other local Mahoning Co. news: on 2/8 28 wild turkeys and 35 male red-winged blackbirds visited my backyard feeders here in Poland Twp. Craig Holt
