There are some-at least in Northeast Ohio that are very good about this...not me.  I am a Facebooker.  I do not have a smartphone for quick posts

Subject: Re: [Ohio-birds] Posting of Bird Sightings

Andy Sewell is 100% correct that what's really needed is more frequent
cross-posting between online venues, and that something like a Rare Bird
Alert would be ideal for this.

Alternatively, we could also spread the work out a bit, so multiple
volunteers collect and share all that information!  Making them public is
one issue, but I have yet to find a "quick" way to browse some of these
forums, so we really do need active members to share more.

My suggestion: 2-3 committed volunteers from these different Facebook
groups, Flickr groups, and other websites like cincinnatibirds.com,
rarebird.org, etc. and have those volunteers be in charge of "officially"
cross posting noteworthy birds to this email list.

To make that happen, it would be great to have someone coordinate these
volunteers -- maybe someone from OOS, BSBO, etc. could do this?

All that would be needed is 1) to first compile a list of these different
online forums, and perhaps put it up on the web somewhere "official"; and
(2) to maintain a current list of volunteers that work together to make
sure "good" birds on these different forums are mentioned on Ohio-Birds in
a timely manner.  Volunteers just need to alert the Ohio-Birds email list
of noteworthy birds ASAP.

Thoughts?  I'd be happy to be one of the cross-posters for the Central Ohio
Birders facebook groups -- it'd be great to have 2-3 people per forum, just
to keep the information flowing ;-)

PS: 3 Black-crowned Night Herons were still along the river north of the
Scioto-Audubon center in Columbus this morning. See eBird.org -> Explore
Data -> Range and Point Maps, for details.
