I spent some of the snowy morning hiking around Blendon Woods, searching for winter strays.  This cold hasn't yet had quite the concentrating effect that earlier storms had.  Thoreau Lake had only a small ice-free area, and had markedly reduced numbers of geese, Mallards, and Black Ducks, along with 4 Redheads.  The feeders at the Nature Center had nothing unusual, but did have good numbers of sparrows, mostly White-throated, Tree, and juncos, along with the expected woodpeckers, chickadees, titmice, and cardinals.  A Carolina Wren has been hanging around the feeders, and has taken to perching on a snag about eye-level with the Nature Center Windows, and appears to be looking in, watching the watchers.  The Red-headed woodpecker continues to hang out along the pipeline right-of-way, and a sapsucker was calling along the Lake Trail a bit further from where it crosses the pipeline.
