Beautiful day at The Wilds in Muskingum County. Every branch and weed was
covered with glittering ice which flashed and twinkled in the bright sun.
We were not disappointed in seeing the raptors we hoped would be there:
Red-tailed Hawk, several Northern Harriers, at least two Rough-legged
Hawks, and an American Kestrel. The highlight was seeing 3 Short-eared Owls
out hunting along Zion Ridge Road at 4:00 pm. They must have been very
hungry and did not like the Northern Harrier who was also hunting over the
grasses. We did not see the Golden Eagle which has been reported there.
Winter birding is great even when the roads are a little snow covered.
