Hit the road yesterday with Greg Sagasser and Jacob Roalef to check out the Long-Tailed Duck at the Dam at Deer Creek State Park.

Beautiful bird. Definitely worth the drive. Along the way we counted 13 roadside Red-Tailed Hawks, 2 Rough-Legged Hawks, 2 Northern Harrier, 1 Red-Shouldered Hawk, and 1 Sharp-Shinned Hawk.

Horned Larks and Lapland Longspurs were all along US 35 and US 22. We also spotted one grackle in a yard with a bunch of starlings. It flew across the road as we were driving by. We stopped and searched for it and were eventually able to locate and photograph it. (Cannot believe we were chasing a Grackle!)

Total for the day including Deer creek, Spring Valley, Spring Lakes, and the roads in between was 45 species.
