I pulled in my driveway at about 10:15 this morning and had a red-tailed hawk and another large dark bird flying over my pasture. The latter flew away from me and displayed the distinct V-profile of the wings characteristic of turkey vultures. It flew out of sight quickly in the falling snow. Generally I see the first turkey vultures between February 1st and 5th each year so the timing is about right in spite of the frigid conditions.
