The lone Long-tailed Duck was present in the Deer Creek dam spillway until late afternoon when it was joined by another drake and 9 hens. The 11 birds kept in a tight raft until I left in the evening. Also present all day were 2 Greater Scaups and Redhead, which were joined by a female Common Goldeneye later in the day. Another 10 or so more skittish Redheads came a went several times. There have been reports of Lesser Scaups in the spillway recently, but very time I've checked it out in the past few weeks, I've only seen Greaters.

Along the backroads Lapland Longspurs and Snow Buntings are present, but are few and far between. The big flocks I reported a couple weeks ago seem to be long gone. The icy snow last week seems to have put a crust over the cornfields. The question is where did they go? Further south only to return again or back north?
