While out checking several sites along Darby Creek & Prairie oaks MetroPark, I found a nice flock of Snow buntings & Lapland longspurs on Kuhlwein Rd just east of Darby Creek Drive. The birds were in several straggling flocks feeding both in the fields and along the road, with perhaps 100 buntings, 6-7 Longspurs, and 30+ Horned Larks. There were also lots of Tree Sparrows in the weedfields along the western end of the road, perhaps 50-60 easily visible from the car.

Most of the other stops nearby weren't as productive. There were small groups of Black Ducks & Mallards in several open areas along Darby Creek, but I couldn't find anything with them. Prairie Oaks had few birds; Darby Bend Lakes were frozen, but there was a Sharp-shinned Hawk and a Pileated Woodpecker along Darby Creek here.
