First, re the thread on rarity postings: Alas, I am yet another birder/person who does not "do" Facebook. Don't really do much eBird, either. I rely on this listserve for rarity reports as that has been my habit over the years & across my many travels. Guess I will be missing some birds. I, too, lament the "dilution" by other web destinations of listserves for rarities but I doubt there's any fix to that. Obv, many birders prefer to post elsewhere so I think this is just the new reality.

Today, feeling lazy & unsure what the weather was trying to make up its mind to do, I made a quick birding/photography run to Chestnut Ridge. I was rewarded by much activity at the birdfeeder by the Ranger Station.

Nothing rare but I was delighted when a handsome Fox Sparrow joined its compatriots near the feeder. Other sparrows: White-throated, Song, & Tree.

A handful of E Towhees & impressive numbers of Cardinals, easily over a dozen hanging like Christmas tree ornaments in the bare trees. Just the usual feeder birds: Car Chickadees, W-B Nuthatch, House Finch, Juncos, Titmice, Blue Jay (had no idea how hard it would be to get a decent photo of a Blue Jay...), Mourning Dove.

Woodpeckers: Red-bellied, Downy, N Flicker.

Hawks: 2 Red-tailed and one Rough-legged (I was alerted to its flying in to perch by the Wetlands Pond by the explosive scattering of all the feeder birds)
