Walborn Reservoir in NE Stark County has a small patch of open water adjacent to Reeder Rd. with a good variety of waterfowl. Species present this morning at 10:30am included Tundra Swan, Canada Goose, American Wigeon, Gadwall, Mallard, Black Duck, Northern Pintail, Canvasback, Scaup (Greater?), Bufflehead, Red-breasted Merganser, Ruddy Duck, and American Coot.
I only had my binoculars, but a scope would be beneficial for anyone heading over there to really dig through the crowd of waterfowl to scrutinize the Scaup and search the Canadas for a Cackling Goose.
Word is that an eagle had been on the ice nearby prior to my arrival this morning. The eagles are actively nesting in the large White Pine tree to the west of the Reeder Rd. causeway.
There were an additional 34 Tundra Swans feeding in a cornfield on the west side of Reeder Rd. near the intersection of Reeder Rd. and State St.
