For those who may wish to look for the scoters at Avon, a scope is a must.  There are a couple random birds hanging out close, but the big group stays close to the edge of the ice straight north of the pier.  As you begin to scan this far group of ducks, you will be amazed how many burly White-winged Scoters are peppered in. 

The Red-necked Grebes are a different story.  They were literally the closest birds to the end of the pier.  However, they slept literally the entire time i was there yesterday!  Definitely frustrating from a photography aspect.
