I also saw this Grebe around 2:15pm today. I was wondering given the take-off technique of grebes ... Is it possible that this bird is ice locked? There can't be more than 50-60 feet of open water. Is it stuck until it thaws out? The bird seemed very active ... So it must be eating ok.
Thanks,
Matt Erickson
