I checked several areas along the Scioto River in Columbus, from the Haul Rd Ponds, through Sciotot Audubon Park, up to the Marble Cliff bikepath and Griggs Dam. Most bodies of water had some open water, with the notable exception of Watermark Lake (which was till completely frozen), and there was much waterfowl movement. Flocks of Geese & ducks were headed north upriver all morning, and most of the open water had something interesting. The totals included:

Canada Geese - lots of north flying flocks; far fewer #s actually down on the water
Dabbling Ducks - other than Mallards, there were a few Black Ducks & Green-winged Teal in the river at Scioto Audubon
Redhead - flocks at Haul Rd (35+) and Marble Cliff (20+)
Ring-necked Ducks - 4 at Haul Rd quarry Pond, and 12+ on the Scioto at Marble Cliff
Lesser Scaups - small #s at nearly every stop
Common Goldeneye - 4 were still at Scioto Audubon, and another 2 were at Marble Cliff
Bufflehead - 4 were at the Haul Rd quarry Pond
Common Mergansers - small #s at most spots, topped by 6 at Marble Cliff
Red-br.Merganser - 1 maile remained in the river below Griggs Dam
Hooded Mergnaser - small #s at many stops, topped by 7 at Scioto Audubon
Ruddy Ducks - 7 were in a tight flock along the Scioto at Scioto Audubon
Red-necked Grebe - the single aforementioned bird was still at Haul Rd pond
Great Blue Herons - small numbers all along the river, with 4 at Scioto Audubon the high #
Turkey Vultures - 4 were soaring around Griggs Dam, a common stopover site in migration
Bald Eagle - 1 adult was on the nest at the back of the Haul Rd Quarry
Cooper's Hawk - hunting birds were observed at both Watermark Lake and at Griggs Dam
Kildeer - calling birds were at many locations
Gulls - the only big flock was 140+ Ring-bills on the ice shelf at the Haul Rd pond early; other areas had lesser #s
Brown Creepers - 1-2 birds were at most stops with any riverside forest access
Tree Sparrows - a few remain in the phragmites marsh at the south end of Haul Rd
Redwing Blackbirds - small numbers were calling at many stops, and flyover flocks headed north were at Haul RD and Scioto Audubon early in the morning
