I started at Logan Lk today but was met by more fishermen than target birds. Only grebes were a single Horned Grebe (winter plumage) & a Pied-billed. One com loon. What a chg from last week. There was a good-sized grp of Bufflehead, some Ruddies & Mergs.
Proceeded N to Blacklick where it was pretty quiet but a couple Tree Sparrows were by the feeders & I did get my FOS E Phoebe (only heard).
At Hoover Dam (being from AZ, the irony of a small Midwest dam & reservoir bearing the same name as the "famous " one on the mighty Colorado never fails to bring an ironic smile), an imm Bald Eagle roused the lazing gulls & casually plucked a fish from just above the dam for lunch.
2 female Long-tailed Ducks were in the "pond" by the dam parking lot. First there was just one but another flew in & swam over to the other then they stayed close, feeding frequently.
A couple pullovers farther N, I found a Horned Grebe in full breeding plumage. He puffed out his "horns" & his head feathers--quite a show. I also saw one Com Goldeneye, many DC Cormorants, Lesser Scaup, Mergs & Bufflehead (& many coots). Also my FOS Great Egret.
Lovely day if still a bit chilly in the wind.
