The first wave of Prothonotary Warblers has arrived at Hoover Reservoir, Delaware County. While assisting a friend locate Red-headed Woodpecker nest sites to film I observed my first PROWs of the year. The Red-headed Woodpeckers were also cooperative for us.

Warblers I have observed to date at the Hoover Nature Preserve include Northern Parula, Louisiana Waterthrush, Yellow, Yellow-Rumped, Yellow-throated, Pine, Palm and Prothonotary Warblers. The only vireo so far is Warbling Vireo. There are also two pairs of nesting Osprey and one pair of nesting Bald Eagles. The coming week is predicted to have southern winds and this should bring in a wave of new warblers, vireos and more.

Wishing everyone a safe and productive spring of birding adventures.

Charlie Bombaci
