Paul--
Thanks, that is indeed good news. Last year, a pair was observed
nest-building on 5/3, an unusually late date. Over the previous 16
years, two or three birds had appeared by the end of March or maybe the
first few days of April, with nest-building ensuing soon thereafter, so
this bird--and last year's--is weeks late in the established nesting
schedule. I did not find young birds at the site later.
We can hope that another adult will come. This is, in the world of
YCNH, an exotic northern spot known to only a few surviving members of
the clan, and hopes are all we have. They seem used to the Cooper's
hawks. Please let us know if you find signs this tradition will continue.
