Interesting sitings at Brukner Nature Center yesterday - an osprey was perched on a snag above our drive and a broad-winged hawk perched at the edge of the meadow! First yellow-throated green warbler heard this morning as well!

Subject: [Ohio-birds] More Athens County arrivals

Yesterday morning, bright and early, I heard my first singing Wood Thrush of the season on our property in western Athens County. I heard quite a few more singing along our road during an evening walk. Also heard my first singing Common Yellowthroat of the season during yesterday evening's walk.

An auditory first for me, as of this weekend, was clucking Wild Turkeys.
They sound like they are just across the road from our property. I've heard it both in the morning and during the afternoon. Should I take this to mean there is a roost nearby? I don't know of any turkey hunting that takes place in my neighborhood, so I don't think I'm hearing a man-made turkey call.

I hope to venture out this afternoon to a nearby farm field that Grasshopper Sparrows frequent to see if they have returned yet.

Good birding,
Heather Aubke
Albany (Athens Co.)
