eBirder's have recorded 69 species of land and water birds in the first 6
days of April (82 year-to-date) at this Geauga County hotspot. Of interest
today were 1 Red-throated Loon, 2 White-winged Scoter, 7 Red-necked Grebe, 2
Bald Eagle (immature - yesterday an adult was also spotted) and 2 Osprey.
The Eagles and Osprey can be seen catching fish in the lake and flying away
with their catch. Binoculars are sufficient for most viewing but a spotting
scope helps with the waterfowl that are far out on the lake.

Most of the activity is found from the boat house north along Valley Road.
Several pull-offs are available and there are ponds on the west side of the
road as well as grassy fields, old fields containing some trees and shrubs
and mature woods. Diversity of habitat accounts for the diversity of birds.

If you live nearby and have friends interested in learning about birding,
this is an ideal place to bring them. It only gets better as the weather
gets warmer.
