What an amazing day for yard birds! Whodathunk I'd have Common Loon and Summer Tanager on my yard list on the same day.

I've been watching a 1st spring male Summer Tanager in my apple tree that I first saw around 5 pm. This is the 2nd time I've had one in my yard, the first appearing on April 30, 2008.

My yard list today included:

Common Loon! (1 flyover around 9 am, unusually low)
Cooper's Hawk
Mourning Dove
Chimney Swift
Ruby-throated Hummingbird (at least 2)
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
Red-eyed Vireo
Blue Jay
Tufted Titmouse
House Wren
Swainson's Thrush
American Robin
European Starling
Nashville Warbler
Yellow Warbler
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Blackburnian Warbler (at least 2)
Bay-breasted Warbler (at least 2)
Common Yellowthroat
Summer Tanager
Northern Cardinal
Rose-breasted Grosbeak
Chipping Sparrow
Song Sparrow
Common Grackle
Brown-headed Cowbird
Baltimore Oriole
House Finch
American Goldfinch
House Sparrow

And I heard a Common Nighthawk over my house Thursday evening, May 8.
