Hi, all
We found two Nelson's Sparrows at about 9 am at Kuhlwein wetlands at the
edge of marsh on the south side of the road about 3/10 mile east of Darby
Creek Rd. Later, an obliging Clay-colored Sparrow was occupying low
shrubbery in the SW corner of the recreation field at BDMP main entrance.
It was singing and working in the short grass with a loose flock of
Chipping (12), Field (8) and Lincoln's (2) Sparrows. A field trip of
students arrived and they all retreated back into the foliage.

The only shorebirds were a dozen Lesser Yellowlegs and a Pectoral Sandpiper
in the Kuhlwein wetlands. We noted 10 Vesper Sparrows and three recently
fledged Horned Larks in one pool that came to the road.

Shorebirds were far more plentiful in April and into the first few days of
May. I suspect there will be a late surge soon so keep checking the
fields!

Best,
--
