The Columbus Audubon trip to Scioto Audubon this morning was nearly washed away by persistent showers (and a meeting place mishap), but 2 participants (Thanks, Regina!) still managed to see a rain-soaked migrant fallout. We worked mostly along the multi-use trail along the river south of the Grange Center, and it was dripping, both with raindrops and with birds. Included among the migrant haul were
Herons - Great Blue, Green Herons (20, and 1 Great Egret
Ospreys on their nest platform (where they just sit during the rain)
Flycatchers - 1 Great Crested and 4-5 E.Kingbirds
Swallows - small flocks of Tree, Rough-winged, & Barn along the River (I also had Bank & Cliff at nearby Haul Rd)
Vireos - 8-10 Warbling, but also 1 Red-eyed and 1 Yellow-throated (unusual here)
Thrushes - 4-5 Swainsons's and 1 singing Wood Thrush
Mimids - 15+ Gray Catbirds, along with 1 Mockingbird right around the Grange Center feeders
Warblers - 16 species, with lots of Yellows, Tennessees, Yellow-rumps, Palms. Redstarts, and Blackpolls. Less Common were Parula, Nashville, Chesnut-sided, Magnolias, Black&White, Blackburnians, N.Waterthrush, Ovenbird, Wilson's
ScarletTanagers - 2 along path
IndigoBuntings - 2-3 singing around Grange Center
Sparrows - Songs, Chipping, White-tjhroated, & White-crowned right along path, sometimes feeding on the path.
Blacbirds - Redwings, grackles, Cowbirds, Baltimopre Orioles (5), and Orchard Oriole.
