It was a dark and foggy morning ...
It was 2:45 pm and we were making one more pass at Hickory ridge trail when
we heard a mourning warbler talking to itself, "Gin-ger ale" behind the
northern green frog pond along the trail. We scanned the area and Elaine
found the bird on the ground. But wait. Drat! It was only a Kentucky
warbler. After a brief viewing, it disappeared into the brush. We
continued scanning the area, trying to get another look at the Kentucky
warbler when the mourning warbler plops itself down on the leaf litter and
starts foraging. It flies up into the tree and works its way up the vine-
covered trunk before exiting stage right. Quite the exciting end of the
day.
