Today, while birding the Mirror Lake and South Oval area (aka "Mirror
Hollow"), I had a Clay-colored Sparrow fly down and land right in front of
me on the steps of the Browning Amphitheater. Not exactly the location I'd
expect to pick up that particular bird for the state, but this area is
really THE magnet for migrants that find themselves in the vicinity of main
campus. The woods just east of the amphitheater

Photos of the Clay-colored, and a complete checklist of other birds (Cape
May, Hooded, Blue-winged, Northern Waterthrush, etc.) at:

Other birds that have been here lately (Woodcock, Whip-poor-will, various
warblers, etc.) can be reviewed via the eBird Hotspot Explorer:

Good birding,
-Paul Hurtado

PS: If you try and bird this area, the nearest paid parking is probably the
Neal Ave or the south edge of campus, as well as most parking garages near
the medical center (maybe the garage by the student union as well). Free
parking? Maybe Lennox Center across 315 (take John Herrick Ave east to
Mirror Lake) or somewhere east of High St.
