Yesterday I went to Highland Stone Quarry (no longer in operation) in
Highland County to see if indeed the Sandhill Cranes I have seen around
there before were at the quarry. I could not find any, which leads me to
believe the time that I did see a lot of them as noted in earlier posting
was in the FALL.

However- the quarry itself is very interesting. Several bodies of water and
an Osprey nest with two osprey and perhaps their eggs or babies. They are
on Roush Rd. right near the intersection with Price Rd. along the quarry
near the old mining equipment. When I got out of my car, they were very
interested, perhaps concerned, with me and flew all around until I left.
Really great to see them so close.

Also there were several cormorants which I found interesting for an inland
location.
