While walking near the beaver marsh in the Cuyahoga Valley national park on the towpath trail this morning at approximately 9:45 am, I heard a strange chatter. I got my binoculars up on the bird and was happy to see a immature male summer Tanager sporting a tie dye pattern of orange, yellow and red plumage without black wings. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a photograph of the bird. As soon as I put my camera up towards it, it flew off to the west.

If you're interested in trying to relocate this bird, it was located north of the beaver marsh boardwalk and just south of the small bench that faces the river north of the beaver marsh. Just a little bit south of that bench, looking west, there are a few open spots where you can see across the canal up into the woods. The bird was up in these trees in the upper part of the canopy.

I lingered for about 15 or 20 minutes to try to relocate the bird, but I did not have any luck.

Although the photographer in me is disappointed at my inability to get a shot of this bird, the birder in me was pleased to have life Bird #249 be a beautiful young male immature summer Tanager in the Cuyahoga Valley in Summit County.

Good luck and happy Birding!
