Birders, come share some birthday cake for the 53rd anniversary of the Geauga Park System and help us, a Geauga Parks grassroots group, preserve, protect and conserve over 9000 acres.A letter in our local newspaper, the Maple Leaf says "When did the Virginia rail (a bird) and the coyotes (varmints) start paying taxes to acquire and maintain our Geauga County parks?.......Why does a negligible group of environmentalist-elitists think that they can dictate their special-interest limits on how the county's taxpayers use their own publicly funded parks? " So If you love our parks and all that lives in them, meet us at Orchard Hills Park, 11340 Caves Road, Chester Twp. This former golf course is being reforested and provides habitat for five bird species listed as rare in Ohio: Dark-eyed Junco, Henslow's Sparrow, Bobolink, Brown Creeper, and Canada Warbler.
We will be meeting from 11am -1 pm in the lodge. Help us plan to counter the new "recreational activities" such as fire arms ranges, skateboard parks, ATVs, snowmobiles and dirtbikes proposed by our Park Board. Our letter to the editor expert wonders why we are protecting a bird that lives out of state? So join us environmental -elitists on Saturday August 23 for come birthday cake and planning. This is a fight many counties are facing and we are making a stand in Geauga.
