I have gone through some of the issues here in Mahoning County with Mill Creek MetroParks. Our previous director was interested in selling off mineral rights and logging the parks. This was after a consultant was brought in to develop a 10 year plan for the parks. 

The park held public meetings where over a 100 taxpayers came to speak out against these proposals at each meeting. Of course, a few citizens were in favor of the destruction for the profit.

We learned of this plan by attending park board meetings. The public meetings on drilling were only held once word got out that the park was considering selling itself.

You should always attend these meetings in your area because you never know what might be out there ready to destroy what is in your own backyard.
