Julie Karlson and I checked the beach this morning and saw a Little Gull.
Its head was white except for a small black spot behind the eye and a small
dark area on top of the head. The wings were light gray above and black
below. The longest primary on the right wing was white. It looked like the
next primary was missing. The bill was black and the legs were sort a dingy
pink. A Killdeer walked by and was just slightly smaller than the gull. It
was on the beach with the Ring-billed Gulls but then someone let her dog run
on the beach and the bird left. It flew north over the lake. The best time
to look for it is probably first thing in the morning.
