I was at Conneaut for a few hours this morning. There was a nice movement
of birds moving along the lake. I ended up with 10 species of shorebirds.
The only birds of note were western and Baird's sandpipers. Most of the
birds were moving through and only stopped briefly. A killdeer, three
lesser yellowlegs, and a semipalmated sandpiper attempted to stick around
but walkers, fishermen and drivers did their best to scare them off. There
were a few hundred Bonaparte's gulls, but I found nothing different. There
also were 7 common mergansers, 1 osprey, and 2 peregrine falcons. There
were also numerous common and Forster's terns as we as single Caspian and
Black terns.

Also of interest was their mowing of the marsh or should I say Phragmites
adjacent to the flat. I arrived as they were making their last few sweeps.
Having brush-hogged in the past, I know the last few sweeps sometimes drives
birds out. I was not disappointed as I saw 6 soras, a least bittern, and a
couple sparrows fly out.. You hate them getting spooked, but its good to
try and get rid of the Phragmites. What surprised me was the amount of
water he was mowing in.

Here's a list of the shorebirds:

Black-bellied plover 2

Semipalmated plover 1

Killdeer 1

Greater yellowlegs 9

Lesser yellowlegs 7

BAIRD'S SANDPIPER 1

WESTERN SANDPIPER 1

Semipalmated sandpiper 1

Least sandpiper 3

Sanderling 6
