Troy Shively called me on his way to work just after seeing one juv.
Sabine's and several Franklin's gulls at the beach at Indian Lake SP.
They were among a good-sized flock of more-expected gull spp, standing
side by side. A flush of Franklin's shows up every few years, but this
many Sabine's here and elsewhere in Ohio is a rarer phenomenon. As
before, chances of getting close to the gulls are much better in early
morning and late evening, but there are some indications that loafing
gulls will settle in at the south end of the beach even if swimming's
going on--Troy tells me few swimmers are daring the waters this late in
the season, anyway. There seems to be no such thing as a bad time to
take Fido out for a dump, tho.
