Our common hummingbird, the ruby-throated, diminishes rapidly in numbers
through October, but will trickle through into next month. Readers of
this list may recall the all-white individual that lasted till 22
November last year here in Columbus, where our record late stay is 30
November in 2002. The latest state record is 1 December; after that
nearly all Ohio hummers seem to have been rufous or (perhaps) Allen's
hummingbirds, with records as late as 23 January. The oddball late Ohio
record was for Anna's hummingbird 12 Nov 2005 through 24 December 2006.
