We visited The Conneaut Sandspit Area today, Friday, from 2:15PM to 3:45PM. The weather was continuous rain with a sixty-four degree temperature. The good thing was we had the place to ourselves. The only disappointment was seeing that the massive Bank Swallow colony material pile, across the way, has been removed. A nice variety of birds were present. New Fall sightings were 7 Dunlin, 8 Horned Grebes, a male Lesser Scaup, and a single Common Loon. Other shorebirds were 3 Black-bellied Plovers, 3 Sanderlings, 4 Semipalmated Plovers, 2 Least Sandpipers, and 4 Killdeer. Amazing numbers of gulls and terns were gathered on the sandspit. A single adult Lesser Black-backed Gull, had the company of 110+ Common Terns and 350+ Bonaparte's Gulls. The previous were the highlights.
