With yesterday's record of two American avocets at Kokosing Lake,
there are at least three Knox County records all time. Knox Lake has two
avocet records, seven birds on 16 April 1997 (The Bobolink 1(1):5), and a
single avocet on 21 August 2013 (G. Cowell).
Records of the American Avocet at Ohio have increased considerably in
the last twenty years. Dr. Milton Trautman in "Annotated List of the Birds
of Ohio", states, "A few reliable records (of American avocet) along Lake
Erie and inland; not observed annually".
