The Columbus Audubon trip to these two parks southeast of Columbus were treated to a good fallout of temperate migrants this morning at Blacklick, and a decent waterfowl mix at Pick Ponds. The cold morning at Blacklick made the birds very sun-conscious, and by following the shadow line, we were able to find flocks of birds for nearly 3 hours, with large #s of Yellow-rumped warblers & White-throated Sparrows. Included among the BlacklickWoods finds were

sapsuckers - 2
other woodpeckers - 30+, mostly Downies & Red-bellieds
E.Phoebe - 2
BlueJays - 40+
Blue-headedVireo -1
Kinglets - 20-25, majority Golden-crowned, but a decent # of Ruby-crowned
E.Bluebirds - 4+
Hermit Thrushes - 2
Cedar Waxwings - 5
Nashville Warbler - 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler - 120+, probably more
Palm Warbler - 5
Rose-br.Grosbeak - 1 female, just west of the Nature Center parking area
E.Towhee - 6+
Field Sparrows - 14+
Chipping Sparrows - 10+
Song Sparrows - 16+
SwampSparrow - 2
White-thr.Sparrows - 100+, probably more
White-cr.Sparrows - 2
Juncos - 5+
Com.Grackles - 10+
Redwing Blackbirds - 10+
Purple Finch - 1 female at Nature Center feeders
Am.Goldfinch - 16+
Pine Siskin - 1 at Ash Grove picnic area early

Pick Ponds were fairly dry, with significant water only in Teal Pond and Ellis Pond. Both of these had small flocks of dabblers, including Mallard, N.Shovelers, Green-winged Teal, and Gadwall, as well as a few Pied-billed Grebes and Coots. Here'too, landbirds stole the show, with small groups of warblers (Yellow-rumped & Palm) and sparrows (Field, White-crowned, and Song). Surprisingly, the only shorebird was a lone Solitary Sandpiper at Ellis Pond. An adult Bald Eagle circling over Ellis Pond capped a good trip.
