The snow was falling for the entire duration of my morning walk in the Beaver Marsh area of the CVNP, sometimes fairly heavy, but most of the time it was a light, steady snow adding an ambiance to a Thanksgiving morning walk.  Large numbers of American Tree Sparrows could be heard in most of the adjacent fields near Lock 26 and then further north toward the path to Indigo Lake.  The best bird of the morning was hearing the familiar ‘grunt’ of the resident Virginia Rail and then seeing it run along the edge of the fallen cattails at the south end of the boardwalk.
